modular board game design - global vision

A Custom-Made Board Game for Competitive Play

I designed, illustrated, and handcrafted a reinvented version of the traditional goose game, turning it into a team-based, modular experience playable by large groups. Instead of using a single static board, I created interlocking wooden tiles, allowing players to assemble the game differently each time depending on the space available.

The goal? Collect as many resources as possible and trade them for points to reach the finish line. Each of the 62 illustrated cards corresponds to a square on the board and hides a surprise effect, either beneficial (gain of resources) or challenging (penalties, skipped turns, etc.). The reverse side of each card hides its effect until it’s flipped during gameplay, preserving suspense and spontaneity.

Game Components & Production Process Illustrations: Each tile was hand-drawn using Procreate, using a limited 6-color palette for graphic consistency and visual clarity. Tiles: After preparing the illustrations, the 62 wooden cards were CNC-cut from thin birch wood, then UV-printed on both sides. Pawns & Resources: All tokens — including hearts, crystals, and potions — as well as player pawns, start/finish tiles, were designed in colored plexiglass, engraved and cut using a laser cutter. Game Box: The final game includes a custom engraved wooden box, laser-cut and designed to house all components. Rule Book: A printed rule book guides players through setup, objectives, and mechanics, making the game accessible for all levels.

This playful and dynamic board game is not just a game: it’s a modular gaming experience, designed with care and built to last.

Game is on : move your pawn

I was also able to create the various pawns necessary for the smooth running of the game: the resources to collect (crystal, vial, and heart), player pawns, starting and finishing squares. These elements are shaped in colored plexiglass, cut, and engraved by laser cutting.
Finally, the box that contains the game is also engraved and cut using laser cutting. The set is completed by a rule book, which explains to the players the course of the game and the possible actions.
