Blending Scientific Learning with Nature Exploration

As part of a collaborative educational project, I co-created with Chloé Ceschin a pedagogical discovery trail within the Strasbourg Botanical Garden, designed especially for high school students following the science track (Baccalauréat scientifique). The objective was to help students engage with the key themes of their curriculum through direct interaction with their natural environment.

We developed an immersive treasure hunt, inspired by the students’ own questions. Scattered across the garden, a series of interactive ground installations, which we called “question traps”, encouraged active exploration. These wooden boxes, integrated seamlessly into the garden, posed questions related to botany, plant morphology, and biodiversity.

Each installation opened a door to learning by providing:

  • Curriculum-related scientific challenges

  • Explanations of the properties and forms of surrounding plants

  • Contextual visual cues to support learning through observation

These playful yet informative modules were designed not only for students but also to enrich the experience of casual visitors. The prototypes were silkscreen-printed in two colors and produced in the silkscreen lab at HEAR (Haute école des arts du Rhin) using hand-cut wooden structures.

Key Deliverables

Interactive learning tools for the science curriculum

Participatory signage design for public gardens (about the properties of the studied plants, for example, their morphology…)

Educational experience design for youth

Prototyping in wood and silkscreen print (2-color process)
