Today, the SNFGE (French National Society of Gastroenterology) aims to raise the profile of this specialty and its practitioners among the general public and medical students.
How can you visually unite a community of highly diverse medical professionals, without reducing their complexity? This was the core challenge at the heart of this identity system for hepato-gastroenterologists, a medical specialty with wide-ranging subspecialties, roles, and modes of practice.
I chose to revive and reinterpret the visual power of stickers, leveraging their accessibility, impact, and versatility, both in physical form and digital culture.
A Sticker System to Represent Diversity
Historically associated with youth culture and self-expression, stickers are now a powerful communication tool for community building. They are: quick to apply, easily layered or combined, highly adaptable across platforms and emotionally resonant, especially when paired with emojis or symbolic shapes.
This made them the ideal medium to reflect the vibrant, evolving and plural identity of hepato-gastroenterology professionals.
I developed a modular graphic system based on stickers and organic shapes to reflect the diverse, evolving nature of hepato-gastroenterology and the human relationships within it. This visual identity is flexible, expressive, and designed to adapt across all mediums, print, physical space, and digital platforms.
Key Elements
Stickers featuring short or long forms of the specialty’s name (“les hépato-gastroentérologues”) act as markers of belonging, combining rounded shapes and layered compositions.
Typography: New Nord, a contemporary sans-serif font chosen for its readability, emotional warmth, and versatility across content formats.
Color palette: Soft, optimistic colors create an inclusive, non-clinical aesthetic, ensuring accessibility (especially for people with visual impairments) and emotional comfort.
Modular logic: Rounded, organic forms inspired by digestive organs allow for infinite combinations, reinforcing a sense of fluidity, diversity, and cohesion across communication materials.
This system makes the specialty more approachable, human, and recognisable, while remaining adaptable and visually dynamic.
Usage on Instagram and Social Media
The system was designed for maximum reuse and flexibility on platforms like Instagram:
-
Visual consistency across all posts using color overlays and sticker components
-
Dynamic categories: taboos, events, expert insights, and “gastro’scoops” (teasers to premium content)
-
Playful emoji illustrations make complex concepts more digestible, while encouraging deeper engagement
